How can we improve sanitation and better manage human waste in low-income urban communities? read the brief

Making Toilets Inviting

Does artwork make toilets more inviting and influence sanitation behaviour, especially by children?
During research by the Potty Project earlier this year in India, a trend in decorating newer toilet blocks with children in mind was noted in a number of cities. Elsewhere they saw that children were not keen users of toilet facilities and preferred to go outside – even if the proximity of a toilet was not an issue. Can visual enhancement encourage children to make use of toilet facilities?

This is such a great idea! Art and creativity can go a long way with kids, whether it's in the classroom or the bathroom!

This is great. We've learned alot from the Potty Project too and want to take their insight that sanitation solutions are generally not well-designed to meet the needs of women and children into consideration.
